Growhouse Urban Agriculture Center (Executive Director)

Programs & Initiatives

• Garden Volunteer Days – Weekly community farming and maintenance.

• Urban Apiary Program – Beehive installation and pollination education for teens & adults.

• Community Composting Program – Diverted 15+ tons of waste annually.

• “Greentern” Internship – Youth sustainability and leadership training for teens and LGBTQIA+ youth.

• Vocational Agriculture Training (in partnership with Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center) – Co-produced hands-on job training in urban farming for teens on the autism spectrum.

• Weekly Harvest & Food Donation Program – Distributed fresh produce to local shelters.

• Local Cafe Collaboration - Sold fresh produce and honey directly to local cafes and restaurants. 

• Retail Cooperative Store – On-site market for local artisan and farm goods.

• Truck Farm Phoenix – Mobile garden teaching sustainability across community sites from schools to the Science Museum.

Projects

• Valley of the Sunflowers – Two-acre STEM and sustainability learning site with Intel, Bioscience High School, ASU, and the City of Phoenix. A ‘seed-to-engine’ project activating and beautifying vacant land in the production of biofuel for the student’s biofuel/solar powered vehicle project. 

• Community Garden Construction (4 sites) – Designed and built irrigation and green infrastructure.

• Vacant Lot Activation Research – Co-authored best practices guide with ASU.

Events

• CultivEAT Farm-to-Table Dinner – Annual fundraiser and community celebration.

• Chile Pepper Fest – Food and culture event highlighting local farms and restaurants, benefiting Growhouse programs.

• Open Farm Days – Public education and volunteer engagement free, weekly events.

• Vacant Lot Activation Program (Adaptive Reuse of Temporary Space ARTS) – Converted blighted properties into public art and gathering spaces.

• Mural Match Program - Matched artists with building owners to create more public art and to deter graffiti. 

• Small Business Membership Program (Roosevelt Row Merchant Association RoRoMA) – Provided advocacy and resources for local merchants and produced collaborative events / marketing. .

• Small Biz Recycling Pilot Program – Implemented recycling initiative in collaboration with the City of Phoenix for small businesses within the Arts District boundary.

Projects

• District Revitalization Master Plan – Guided redevelopment of Roosevelt Row as a major arts corridor establishing the “Arts, Culture, and Small Business Overlay”.

• Community Visioning: “Teddy’s Todo List” – Led participatory neighborhood planning process.

• Neighborhood Tree Plantings – Enhanced long term shade canopy with annual tree plantings.

• Pedestrian Directory Billboards – Installed artistic wayfinding signs and postcards for visitors and businesses.

• Alley String Lighting & Activation Project – Installed decorative lighting and hosted events to increase safety, visibility, and pedestrian use of downtown alleys.

• INFLUX Vacant Storefront Activation / Public Art Installations – Produced and commissioned temporary pop-up art installations in vacant storefronts. 

Events

• First Fridays Art Walk – Managed vendors & block party logistics for 20,000+ monthly art walk visitors.

• Solstice Art Auction & Fundraiser – Annual gala supporting arts and cultural programs.

• Feast on the Street – Large-scale community dining event with a 1-mile-long dinner table and art activations celebrating local food in Phoenix.

• Pie Social – Community baking competition and placemaking event.

• Phoenix Food Truck Festival – Culinary event and nonprofit fundraiser highlighting the best food trucks.

• Corporate Volunteer Cleanups – Mobilized small to large-scale corporate events / collaborations to cleanup and improve public spaces.

• Civic Engagement Partnership Network – Expanded partnerships with 75+ schools and nonprofits.

• Make a Difference Day – Coordinated large-scale citywide volunteer service projects as part of the National Make A Difference Day event.

• Serve-A-Thon Phoenix – Annual corporate and community day of service improving local schools and neighborhoods and corporate fundraising effort for Handson Greater Phoenix.

• MLK Jr. Weekend of Service – Citywide volunteer mobilization event honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

• 9/11 Memorial Day of Service – Weekend-long community service and 9/11 remembrance event.

• A Taste of Volunteering – Annual fundraiser gala for Handson highlighting local chefs.

• Phoenix Vintage Market – Seasonal market celebrating vintage and creative reuse.

• Sidewalk Saturdays - Weekly local artisan popups w/ live acoustic music on Saturdays along the street.
